Procurement is a rapidly developing career path, with procurement professionals’ salaries now frequently exceeding those of peers in the more traditional professional services. At APUC, we have a track record of developing entry-level colleagues into leadership and other senior roles within the Higher and Further Education sector – both through our Supply Chain Management Trainee programme and through more flexible routes.
The role of the Public Procurement professional must be able to:
- Apply sound commercial judgment
- Protect an organisation by managing risk
- Collaborate with and influence a variety of differentstakeholders
- Create strategies for procurement contracts
- Understand social, economic and environmental impacts of procurement and secure benefits where feasible
- Uphold key legal principles when managing procurement processes
- Continue to improve procurement capability
- Develop behavioural skills to support technical skills when delivering procurement services
Procurement People of Tomorrow (PPoT) is a Scotland-wide partnership programme, involving both the public and private sector, that aims to create Scotland’s ‘future’ procurement and commercial talent. PPoT’s vision is to leave a sustainable legacy for the procurement profession in Scotland by growing our own talent to address industry-wide skills shortages.
